The Tom Ridge Environmental Center Foundation (TRECF) was established as The Friends of the Tom Ridge Environmental Center in June 2003, three years prior to the opening of the Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC) in May 2006. Our name change occurred in late 2017. The Foundation plays a critical role in raising funds for TREC, DCNR/Presque Isle, educators, researchers, and our partners at TREC.

Since 2007 the Tom Ridge Environmental Center Foundation has been providing grants to our partners in environmental education, research, and scientific endeavors. Funded projects have included such things as STEAM-focused educational programs for school students grades K-12; research on the flora and fauna of Presque Isle State Park; facility and equipment upgrades to the TREC building to improve the visitor experience; birding events and migration tracking; and more.
